Well dressings are generally thought to be of pagan origin, most probably pre Roman, with it's origins thought to be sacrificial in reverence to the local water Gods. It was adopted by Christianity in the early medieval period and has continued to this day. The following are some of this years efforts.... This next one is at the site of a Saxon church.... School children's efforts..... A closer look at how the picture is made... This one is particularly impressive..... Especially when you read the list of "ingredients"... RR

very interesting, thank you for sharing
I have long been interested in wells, since my favourite element is water.
I often feel a kind of natural drive to want to give thanks to nature for the gift of live-fetching wetness.
I would love to go to a well dressing event, maybe one day, if the fates are kind.
I am also pretty interested with the idea of wishing wells.
