well yes, possibly. not all of those are attested in Britain and are Gaulish. at present they don't all have much of a place in brython, largely because nobody here has much interaction with them.
we do have a list on the website of expected 'deity types', those we mgiht expect to see in a full pantheon.
the problem is of course that almost all of these gods names are titles, and potentially refer to the same figures. Rigonometis for instance iirc is only known from one place and may well have been Mars. His name just means lordof the grove or somesuch so any local god could have had that title.

The number of gods named in this thread is far more than I previously knew about. Do most people focus on just a few or is the idea to include them all in regular devotions?

I would guess very few people include them all in regular devotions. Most people have a relationship with a few of the gods and very little to do with others. I personally honour 6 deities regularly. Relationships take time, and you can't get to know a crowd all at once

I don't think anyone includes all of them in regular devotions most would build up relationships with a few that they have had particular expereinces with.

Rigonemetis = King of the Sacred Grove.Known only from an inscription at Nettleham , just north of Lincoln/ Lindum nr me.Wish we knew more of him.I tend to see him as a "Greenman: type deity, although we have a broach in our local museum found at Thealby, about 20 miles north of Nettleham depicting a horned god who I suspect may be him.

Thanks for adding a little info about Rigonemetis. I didn't know we had a list of Brythonic deities on the site. The link seems to be broken, which is a shame. I think it would be good to have a list available of the Brythonic gods and goddesses rather than just the ones current members have relationships with.
I'm guessing what was earlier quoted is a good place to start. I’ve added some more from my own knowledge and divided them between Iron Age/Romano-British and Welsh names. Can anyone think of anymore?
I think I’ll move this to a fresh thread to make it more visible as I think it’s something we could pool our knowledge on.

PS. As I was flicking through Anne Ross's Pagan Celtic Britain I found out Braciaca is a god of malt. Radagast, I guess you know that?

Rigonemetis is mentioned in Megli's list on the website as "Our Lord of the Wood" and equated with Silvanus. Miranda Green's Dictionary lists him as 'Mars Rigonemetis' - "King of the Sacred Grove". She notes a connection with "the Numen of the Emperor" in the Nettleham inscription. This would suggest that he was well integrated into Roman practice. The stone is thought to be part of the arch of a temple and the pottery it was found with suggest a date quite late in the Roman period in Britain.

I think it would be good to have a list available of the Brythonic gods and goddesses rather than just the ones current members have relationships with. We in fact have three lists on the website. The one on the main menu is the one we agreed we would make most prominent, and which includes those deities which one or another of us includes in our practice and so could be presented devotionally. We put the one by Megli and the longer discussion by Deiniol (based on Dumezil's 'functions') together under ' Essays' to put them out of plain view after a previous discussion when some found them too academic [?]. We are dealing here with entries or decisions made by people who are no longer active which makes it difficult to revise or amalgamate lists or articles without their participation. If we are going to have another list we need to work out how the new (potentially definitive?) list will relate to what we already have without the lists becoming too unwieldy or confusing. If it is going to aim at completeness rather being a personal one reflecting the view of individuals as now, I wonder if it would work as a simple Index with links to discussions elsewhere on the site where appropriate ? That might take a bit or work to create, especially if there needs to be more than one link for some entries, but it would avoid confusion.

The way I see it is the existing pages under the main header for gods and goddesses are those past and present members have a relationship with and we have enough substantial material about to build a page from. The essays from Megli and Deiniol are more typologies? I think it would good, additionally, to have a list that is more like an index or perhaps an encyclopedia (didn't we once have an encyclopedia in the essays section from Caer Feddwyd that has been removed?) of all the Brythonic deities regardless of whether anyone here has interacted with them. Something more complete and comprehensive. I admit it would take quite a bit of work, but I think it would be worthwhile.

I am probably just being grumpy and cynical here What would a list like this one be for? such lists are all over the internet in a similar format of just names. I like that we have something different; a (much shorter) list but one where there is in some cases a lot on offer. a long generic list doesnt really add anything We could potentially add a new bit onto the bottom of the current page with Megli and Deiniol's essays linking to resources, such as the resource that has all the inscriptions of Romano-British gods. OR we do the list bit with more information; but that will be a more much intensely researched piece

Maybe putting a link to the Roman Inscriptions of Britain in the library section would be enough?

Hi Kevin, Personally I'm not sure I would 'pair' Lugus and Briganti, but that is just UPG. I also wouldn't equate Rosmerta with Briganti myself, I haven't researched as widely as I would like, but I don't see how a link might be drawn between the two? I wouldn't say Andraste is THE war goddess, but certainly the only information there is on Her shows Her to have a fearsome ware aspect. Her name doesn't necessarily indicate a war like nature, but the remaining information is so sparse it's hard to really say unless you're brave enough to ask Her yourself For the most part though, I'd say that most of those deities were probably worshipped in pre-Roman Britain.

Hi, I'm working on a very important film about ancient England (30BC to 30AD) and looking to find how to translate COMMON BRITTONIC to MODERN ENGLISH and visa versa. Even a DICTIONARY would be helpful. I have tried Globse, and searched everywhere. Please help and thank you.
