Hello, I just wanted to share a few small things about the ritual I did for Rigantona on the dark moon last night.
In the preceding days I had been noticing the leaves leaving the trees and thinking of this as symbolic of Rigantona's return to Annwn. For me her departure from thisworld and her marriage to Pwll feels like a return from the human world to her wild horse nature. Unlike Creiddylad I don't get the sense she returns in a human form to an otherworld lover who takes human form but runs wild as a mare in the otherworld over the winter. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has any thoughts or intuitions or experiences around this. Working with Rigantona and her stories is quite new to me.
I went to a friend's house and set up an altar with a white horse, Potia's rose, and a candle. We drummed for Rigantona for a while then I spoke Heron's 'Hymn to Rigantona at Nos Galan Gaeaf' several times. This was followed by the chant 'Deep into the Earth' www.youtube.com/watch?v=safChULuhKI which felt fitting for Rigatona's return to Annwn. Afterward the poem was repeated and final farewells said.
To be honest I didn't get too much sense of Rigantona's response as I hadn't practiced the poem or song beforehand and was focusing on getting the drumbeat and words/tune right. If I was to do it again next year I'd practice beforehand. I would also have liked to have some real rose petals so next year will gather and dry some over the summer.
The most interesting thing was that on the way home as I was walking down the track through my local valley there were hoofprints on the grass beside the track. I hadn't noticed them earlier when I set out just after dusk and people don't ride horses on the roads and tracks of my locality after dark...
I'd be interested to hear about how other folks' rites to Rigantona went.
