What did you get up to? I attended a Winter Solstice celebration at Brockholes Nature Reserve near Preston in Lancashire. Stone the Crows, our local border Morris team, danced the sun down... well actually danced the sun behind the drizzling rain clouds into the misty sombre darkness... Then the Oak and Feather Grove, which I'm a member of, hosted a Winter Solstice ritual where we honoured the spirits of place and passed round a mead-horn and toasted the longest night, rebirth of the sun, our deities and ancestors, and anyone/thing else we were inspired to speak of. Below are some pics of the Crows. What did everyone else get up to?

I hold a vigil for the dead on the night before the Winter Solstice, which for some reason was a particularly moving experience this year. Then prayers and offerings during the day - solitary practice is quiet but I enjoy that the shape of things is entirely for me to decide. I'd have loved to have seen the Crows though!
