Hi everyone,
How do you all go about making offerings for the gods? Are there any good resources that would explain how to do it, or is it more of a matter of doing what personally you feel is respectful?
I've been primarily keeping my practise to prayer, music, and poetry so far, because I was worried that if I made an offering I would somehow do it 'wrong' and accidentally be disrespectful. And when I googled it, the main things I could find were from other branches of polytheism, which I'm not sure are applicable. So, in more detail:
-Libations/Drinks
If I wanted to offer a drink to a deity, should I pour it directly on the ground, should I drink it while thinking of the deity, should I stand it on some sort of altar or shrine for a bit and then pour it on the ground, or should I stand it on an altar and then drink it?
-Food Offerings
Similarly, if I wanted to offer food, what should I do with it? I imagine it would look a lot weirder to other members of the public to randomly leave food out somewhere than to have poured a drink onto the ground, since it would take longer to vanish. But I'm not sure if food that had been offered would be suitable for human consumption or not, and surely I'm not supposed to just throw it in the bin...
-Non-consumable offerings, like, art or statuettes or something, idk
If I made/bought one of these, and stood it somewhere prominent in my house, would I have to leave it there Forever? And if so what would happen if/when I move house in the future? Plus the house would get pretty cluttered if you do regular offerings of this type. Or is there a set amount of time you can leave it for, and if so what do you do with the offering afterwards?
As you can see, I'm pretty confused about this whole topic... suggestions from rigorous research and from your own personal practise would both be helpful.
Thanks for your help.
