Hi Megli For what it's worth I had an off-list exchange with the moderator you mentioned at the time. The Australian Queen nutter of the nutty people is quite mad, and I was less than impressed with her surprisingly skillful performance as victim (given her mental impairment), and the reaction of TDN's membership to it being one of a deep healing group hug. What I found most alarming was the prevalent view (all the way to the top) that her flowing awen inspired "interpretation" should be presented as of equal value - and that a rigorous critique shouldn't be allowed. It was intensely annoying! I was lucky that I knew each member of the committee and one of them was a pupil of mine in Celtic (which didn't prejudice her, but made her able to see the 'there is value in not letting people produce TDN articles which present nonsense as fact' side of my argument.)
All very alarming, indeed. Thanks Stephen.

Hi Megli
Skimming through your blog I notice you were just as impressed with the recent 'iron house' reference in the sacrifice article. I was asked to write about that at as well, unfortunately every time I try it devolves into a series of colourful colloquialisms.

LR why cant some people read a myth/legend and accept that not ALL of it has some deep symbolic meaning? why cant some of it be pure poetry and beautiful images? why must the mention of any animal or any plant suddenly refer to a totem animal? there aren't enough hands on my arms or hours in the day to slap some of these people

Hi Ancestrallee and LR alas I have exactly the same problem with the witless Iron House thing. I was well and truly Bobcatted on that one, alas. If I were to write an article on *why this perspective cannot be right* TDN would not be interested.

If I were to write an article on *why this perspective cannot be right* TDN would not be interested. which is bloody absurd. anti-intellectualism, leave your brain at the door as you are now entering an Awen inspired space filled with their pap and you are not allowed to stamp on it.

Oh well. The talk on gods I did at druid camp is now up on AF anyway. Not sure I believe what I'm saying, but might be food for thought.

Your blog entry on Wyverrn wotshername cheered me immensely! At the time I PM'd one of the moderators asking if she actually existed and sticking in my twopenorth about her mental state.
Obviously we were not party to what was going on in the background but it became very clear from the thread that the lady, to quote my sainted Grandmother, didn't have 'all her chairs at home'.

Yes...She was on the OBOD board and had several different aliases, under which she used, bizarrely, to come along and support herself in arguments. One was called, brilliantly, 'Nellie'. (This was confirmed, and she was rapped over the knuckles for it.) Laugh? I almost cried. Anyways! Enough said on this topic perhaps....

Damn it I was going to tell you about the article she has just wrote in the OBOD magazine Touchstone but I won't now.

;D Ok then, the article is called "how to see fairies" with such lines as "Gnomes need help to focus themselves in your garden, and will take up residence in any stony structure that resembles or suggests to you the shape and character of a gnome" Just about sums her up. Next week I'm going to write an article called "how to attract unicorns into your garden by leaving a bale of hay"

I dread to think....but I could almost certainly hazard a good guess. ('Evil scholars...Irish dictionaries all wrong...words speak to me....postmodern paradigms....persecuted...ow, ow...glitter coated wands....unicorns leading me away to a magickal land full of fawns and faeries....' etc, ad nauseam.)

Ha! bang on, I see.
Occasionally I wonder if she's for real and not a clever wind-up merchant. But she's exactly the same on scholarly boards.

I'm surprised that OBOD even entertain her, or maybe not.

There are several nutters on the OBOD boards. All of us who are actually interested in Celtic stuff jumped ship to an invite-only parallel board. So she sits on there and posts to herself in (not very good) Cornish, like a demented budgie entranced by its own song.
I think this is triggering a complex. Oh dearie me...

Would that same budgie be the one that pecks at itself in the mirror? I've had a look at the OBOD board before it's great entertainment and assures me that I'm sane.

in the interest of fairness, this is getting a bit personal innit? Take the high ground. And if such Llewellyn-esque poop is more valuable to other sites, then let them wallow in it. Its their credibility that will suffer, not yours. You can't win battles with people who talk to elves (its all that Arwen power).
