I wonder if Francis considers the Conwy valley unlucky? :-O Hi RR Fortunately it was only Conwy town that was cursed with ill luck. This is still held to be true today. You have to remember that Conwy Town was built as a garrison base by the occupying english - think of it as a sort of Camp Bastion of its day. It was never going to be well thought of by those to whom it was a constant reminder of their loss. Of course the Conwy Valley is by far (indeed by some considerable margin) the luckiest place in the world!

I'm actually wondering if anyone could point me to any good sites on learning more about the Tylwyth Teg. I usually end up just getting Wicca related items when I look.

I've only just seen this thread due its recent revival. What a wonderful article, and in particular water colours from Aimee Taylor. I love the water horse and sea serpent.
Books wise, I'd also recommend W. Jenkyn Jones' 'The Welsh Fairy Book.'
There's also a fantastic new series come out focusing on the folklore of each different county of Britain through 'The History Press.' I've recently read 'Pembrokeshire Folk Tales' by Christine Willison, which I would highly recommend. I think there's also one on Ceredigion.
Julie, if you haven't already read the NW England ones I'd recommend 'Cumbrian Folktales' by Taffy Thomas but disappointingly not 'Lancashire Folktales'- it's badly written and focuses mainly on historical stories associated with the upper classes rather than boggarts, fairies and stories of the 'folk.'

Think I recall reading this a while back... magical but also scary!
Certainly illuminates the contrasts between perceptions of life / death and time in this world and the Otherworld.
