It was Lee, actually, who recommended this book to me. I express gratitude for his doing so. Well written book, Barry Cunliffe takes you through the thaw of the last Ice Age, to the Norman Conquest. Much infotmation packed into this recently written work. I was hoping to read more about the Pagan faiths of the British, but there wasn't much of that. However, I don't believe there was supposed to be. Cunliffe presents several theories when there are plural theories to be discussed, he discusses those he prefers in a well written and persuasive manner. I can personally state that my understanding of early British (he discusses Ireland as well throughout the book, but to a lesser extent) history has been bolstered by reading this book. I have included a brief review, available here: www.historyextra.com/book-review/britain-beginsA worthwhile purchase. Especially for those with at least a mild understanding of current knowledge on British early history and prehistory. A reasonable (I'm not one for too many pictures) amount of photographs, maps, and diagrams. I'm a big fan of the cover. Superficialities aside, a great read.

Thank you.
I have read other books, not this one, by Barry, and I do like his style.
I will add this one to my "wish list"
