As background to why I'm asking - Back when I was just a little Pagan I bought a psck of Jamie Sans Animal Medicine Cards with my first proper pay packet. I worked very well with this basis of 'animal teachings' both for personal use and for ad-hoc readings for various friends and family. However, as I grew up a little bit I became uncomfortable with the cultural misappropriation thing, not really knowing how to proceed respectfully, and used them less and less, and then never; though I was never able to let them go.
More recently I've been working on connecting more deeply with my bioregion (I'm lucky enough to be one of the guinea pigs for Alison Leigh Lilly's Keystones of the Sacred Land course) looking at the animals that make my place what it is. It's been fantastic and brought me back to how a focus on animal spirits is very fulfilling to me. To approach it from this native viewpoint has been very rewarding, and as well as looking at the animals ecological significance I've also been pulled to looking at their folklore and mythology as well.
So, the real point of this thread then - how do you see animals spirits in a Brythonic context? Do you feel it fits with Brythonic spirituality/practise (obviously I do;) )? Are there any particular animals that are meaningful to you? Does that meaning stem from Brythonic law or do you merge it with your Brythonic practises? What place do you think animal law had in its ancient context? Very interested to hear all your replies!
