I'm Sulla (Sulla Devona on some forums) and I live in Plymouth, Devon. I'm following a Celtic path with Brythonic influence as this is local to me. I'm an avid reader of Celtic history and am currently learning Old Devonian/Westcountry Brythonic and Cornish (Unified Cornish Revised). I love music, I play piano, flute and tenor sax, am learning the bodhrán and hope to take delivery of a Celtic Folk harp within the next week or so. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Great to have you here I am suddenly feeling a guilty lack of Cornish resources, so if you have any ideas, that would be great ;D (Put a Cornish Wassail song up yesterday, which is a start...) And we definitely need a Caer Feddwyd band Lots of musical talents here!

Croeso Sulla!
Sorry to hijack your intro with my Cornish connection....I hope you enjoy your time here on the forum. I look forward to your posts!
I just heard about Old Devonian for the first time recently...would like to hear more about it. My husband is a fluent Cornish speaker, but uses the other standard, Kernewek Kemmyn. He developed the GCSE's in Cornish. I am in the process of learning Welsh, with about 3 years under my belt (unfortunately, my class only meets for about 2 hours weekly, so it's slow going).
Anyway, welcome!
Pob Bendith,
Siaron

Dedh da Siaron, I've always been keen on modern languages (I speak French pretty well and a bit of Italian and Spanish), but I'd never even thought about learning a language that was closer to home. I doubt that Old Devonian will/can ever be revived to the extent that Cornish has been which is why I decided to learn UCR as well, I'm right on the border between the two counties after all, lol. It really gives an insight into local Celtic history too, place names that I always just took for granted now mean something.

Annwyl Sulla,
Good for you! If you look at my profile you'll see I'm in the U.S., in Oregon....but I have a passion for the ancient Welsh writings and place names. That's what inspired me to take Welsh ('tho I do have Welsh ancestry, so I suppose it's in my blood). I got tired of reading the Mabinogi and not even being able to pronounce character names (even in my head!). I became determined to make sense of the alphabet soup!
Which reminds me of a great joke I heard recently:
We know that St. Patrick drove all of the snakes out of Ireland....
And that St. Andrew drove all of the golf balls out of Scotland,
BUT--what did St. David drive out of Wales?
--He drove all of the vowels out of the Welsh alphabet!
Pob Bendith,
Siaron

Helo Sulla,
You've piqued my curiosity! Is Sulla a Westcountry name? I hope I'm not going to offend but the only context I know the name from is as a Roman Dictator!
Blessings in felowship Brochfael

Helo Sulla, You've piqued my curiosity! Is Sulla a Westcountry name? I hope I'm not going to offend but the only context I know the name from is as a Roman Dictator! No offence taken. ;D Sulla is the name of an ancient Celtic Sun goddess who according to Brythonic mythology presided over wells and hot springs. Other derivatives of her name are Sul and Sulis, Sulis later became Sulis Minerva (courtesy of the Romans) and had a shrine at Bath in England. I chose the name (or it chose me) because I'm a water sign but I'm very drawn to the Sun, and also because of my interest in the Celtic history of where I live in the South-West of England. There are lot of local places which make reference to her in their names. Mousehole for one, (it apparently translates as the place of Sul), and it is believed there is a connection between her and Silbury Hill.

I love the legend about the cat saving the village, and the Tom Bawcock's Eve celebration. I didn't know about the Sul/Sulis connection, but it doesn't surprise me. Pob Bendith, Siaron

Croeso Sulla! I dont have much to say as I am pretty new to Brythonic studies and I am American. But I would like to learn some Welsh and maybe a little Cornish.I had never heard of Devonian before this post. I am interested in finding out of my mothers side originated from that area or not though. Her maiden name is Hooks and I have heard, which may be false, that they originated around the Devonshire/Cornwall area.
