While talking to Witchy (thanks! ;D ) on another list, it occurred to me that the Caer Feddwyd site could do with a list of recommended texts. Books on Brythonic lore are often hard to come by, often expensive and of variable quality. Therefore, it would be really useful to have a list of books, with each listing accompanied by a short synopsis or review. We can include reviews from more than one person. We should also have a 'black library' section for the likes of Conway, Monroe and McCoy - as it can be equally as useful to know when a book is... um... problematic I'll basically be going through my library and creating the initial list from that, but I would be delighted to have input from the rest of you. Remember, it needn't be a great long essay about each book - just a couple of lines along with the title, author, publisher and isbn number. You could post stuff on this thread, or pm/email it over to me. I will also include links for publishers such as Llanerch, from whom good stuff can be obtained. I'd rather not have Amazon links, but if you know of any smaller publishers or distributors we could list, that would be great.

I have an entry- a first novel by Tim Severin called Odinn's Child. I know it's more about the Norse Tradition, but I thought it a good read. it seems to be the first of a trilogy, the second is called Sworn Brother and the overtitle is Viking.
Tim Severin is best known for his travel books, based around his passion for recreating ancient Sea Journeys in authentic ships, such as The Brendan Voyage (Atlantic crossing in a medieval leather boat). Many of his Journeys have been televised.

Of course I should have mentioned original mythology like the Mabinogion (I own the Jones and Jones translation)
If we're talking fiction here: Some of Morgan Llewellyn's stuff, John James' "Not for All the Gold in Ireland". There are, of course fantastic mythic themes and inspirations of old Sagas in Tolkein. Anything by Rosemary Sutcliffe but most especially "Song for a Dark Queen" which 5h!t5 on anything by Manda Scott!
Incidently I think we were discussing the dialog of the two sages at the camp and I promised someone (was it you Blackbird?) that I'd let them know which book has the full translation. It is "The Making of a Druid" subtitled "Hidden Teachings from The Colloquy of Two Sages" by Christian-J. Guyonvarc'h. It is published by Inner Traditions of Rochester, Vermont and the ISBN is 089281874-3
I realise the tiotle and publisher sounds monumentally uninspiring but it is a little treasure trove.

Thanks for those, guys - and yes, it was me who was interested in the Colloquy The booklist is coming on quite well so far - I'm half way through the third bookshelf at the moment... so only another 15 shelves to go... As soon as I've got a reasonable number on the list, I'll upload it to the site.

The link to the "Trioedd Ynys Prydein - Welsh Triads" under Brythonic Texts appears to no longer exist. And the website for "Tain Bo Cualgne - Text and translation" says it has retired.

Hi BB,
Though some may think it a bit off topic I think that Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land" has salutory lessons for us all.

Cheers for the heads up on the broken links - I'll have a go at finding those elsewhere when I can get over to me Da's PC.
If anyone wants stuff adding to the list, I need title, author, publisher and ISBN if possible, along with a short (couple of lines) review.
