here's one for you;
next weekend i begin the process of preparing the land on my new allotment thingy. it needs a fair bit of work doing to get it ready for planting next springtime, so i will be over there periodically to dig it over and manure it.
i have ideas about how to incorporate ritual aspects into this process such as libating the four corners as i dig it and offer something to Ambactonos.
does anyone else incorporate a ritual element to growing/farming (Francis?)
does anyone know of any good practices that have survived if only long enough to be recorded?

While it may be highly Christianised, the Carmina Gadelica has a few things to say about sowing and reaping. Other than that, I don't know of anything else, sorry!

I usually offer a thanks for giving gift for the wood I be felling to spirit of place and Esus. It's very informal and basic.

i've made a start with a hymn to Ambactonos and will do some libations and appropriate times in the process

I was wondering where you went with this in the end Lee?
It's something I've been muddling through slowly for the last year or so :S I really want to find something that feels right in regards to seed blessings. Having recently finished Stations of the Sun I've been wondering if there might be some scope in the plough Monday rituals?

well, my first crop was picked yesterday! two fat heads of broccoli. I should have one a week for the next month at least, perhaps two a week. onions in a few weeks and corrots soon enough. the bean have been shit.
i am going to be planting some late salad this week including some radish - should tide me over the summer at least.
In all there have been highs and lows and a surprising lack of pests bothering my patch - so few in fact i dont think i have had any whilst my friend has had a bugger load ( only 20 feet away)
the only real ritual was a libation at the four corners of the plot and the hymn. I will make an offering of some of the harvest as an when as a thanks. the real work though is going to be planning for a bigger and better harvest next year

Ah now some sort of charm to keep bugs and beasties away would be useful! I geared some of my Brigantica rite towards the veggies using water taken from the river and left out over night to bless the land with but as it's such a big part of my life I'm keen to develop something more specific. (Much jelous at mention of a harvest by the way! a head of broccoli is no mean feat!)
Ambactonos - the name comes from Amaethon is that right? Do you have a relationship with Him? Do you have any UPG on his identity, if he is known by any other names? I tend to circle the Gods from an intellectual perspective before I approach them!

Yep, Amaethon is what he came to be known as, though Ambactonos is the unattested form of his name. Not much of a relationship as of yet, working on that
