Hello all. I came here from a link posted on another pagan site. I currently am a member of a Welsh-American tradition but would like to know more about the beliefs and traditions of the place it started and the land of my ancestors.
I really look forward to getting to know you all and learning from you.

Greetings Vyktor, I would suggest spending some time going through the old threads as there is a lot of information and it'll give you a better "feel" about what and how we approach things here.

I currently am a member of a Welsh-American tradition but would like to know more about the beliefs and traditions of the place it started and the land of my ancestors. Hi vyktor I'll be honest with you and say that I would like to ask you very openly and directly to let us know whether the Welsh-American tradition you're part of is Y Tylwyth Teg or any of its offshoots. I appreciate that seems unwelcoming and so add that to any who has a genuine interest in the beliefs and traditions of their welsh ancestors I'll offer all the assistance I can. However I would not like the information and ideas on this site to be perverted by YTT as they have with information gleaned from elsewhere in the past. The 'parish' I live in shares a boundary with Betws-y-Coed, so I'm well aware of the nonsense YTT spouts with it's strong web prescence to many well intended folk seeking information. I only ask you to let us know if you are YTT/Dynion Mwyn or one of their offshoots, if it is another unrelated group then of course I am interested, but don't press you for any details beyond those you are comfortable to share.

Y Tylwyth Teg - an emphatic NO. Not an offshoot, not a part of. The only commonality is that they use the word Gwyddonic and so do we. This is our home page gwyddoniad.org/

Let me add as well that as long as I have been a member there has never once been any claim of some long lost welsh knowledge like the crazy claims made on the YTT website. Simply put we acknowledge the welsh roots being simply that the first teacher of our tradition was welsh and came to the states from Wales. Not some long lost secretly hidden family tradition or whatever other crap is spewed on that page. We honestly find the YTT as offensive as can be.

This is our home page gwyddoniad.org/ That's a pretty hierarchical system you appear to have there Vyktor. We tend not to operate such a rigid structure here. How long has your order been in existence? RR

How long has your order been in existence? RR Its not actually as rigid as it sounds tbh - if it was I would not have lasted more than 5 minutes. If I remember correctly the order has been around in one form or another since the earlier part of the 1900's. Again though, having read all the crap that the YTT has claimed and tried to pull over on people I understand your suspicions. I am part of a tradition that claims only to have their roots in Wales by means of the person that started teaching it was from Wales, spoke only welsh and learned what they learned as a young person in Wales. In the same way that if I came to Wales and started a tradition I could say it was based on Canadian things. But it would only be one view of Canadian culture. The Gwyddonic Order as I said before has no claim on some ancient knowledge unless one considers the 1900's ancient - which my kids would I am here simply because I want to learn more about the beliefs and the land that spawned the person that started my order. Also my Great Grandmother was born and raised there, as was her son. I am here to learn and grow, nothing more.
