Just wondering if any of you folk can help guide my thoughts a little bit? There is a fair amount that we can know about the Irish Lugh, and I've read people drawing a likeness to the Norse god Odin. But the two, just going on the stories that I've read, seem to be very different characters - Lugh (and therefore presumably Lugus?) seems to have a bit in common with Thor too though. The thunderer/lightening thing going on - Lughnasadh was a festival of the summer storms before harvesting wasn't it? And they both seem to be associated with oath taking. ...Except that Taranis would be the 'thunderer' wouldn't he? Could there be any link between Taranis and Lugus (in a similar way to the connection talked about on a seperate thread about Lugus and Belinos)? I know hardly anything about Taranis though And IF the Norsemen DID worship Lugh/Lugus (I know it's a bit of a pointless question, but I'm still interested in what people might think!) what name do you think they might have called Him?? Would it be able to give us any clues about Lugus and His worship?

I don't think there is a link between Taranis and Lugus but Taranis and Thor would be related in function as well as name but I could be wrong.
To quote Deiniol in a post elsewhere talking about Lugus: "Suffice it to say that the links with Woden are fairly obvious: both are berserkers, both magician-trickster types, both punish oathbreakers. Both are rulers during the time of war, both are gods who decide on the apportioning of sovreignty, both carry a spear. Lugus fits the Magician-God role well."
