Have been thinking about old Pete Marsh today ;D What are the opinions of people here about Lindow Man? Do you think he was a human sacrifice? How do you interpret the so-called 'triple death' that he underwent? I have my own opinions, but will keep them to myself until the topic has got going

He's at the British Museum, right? I remember I was SHOCKED when I was visiting the Celtic collection, and when I turned a corner there he was! I mean, I had seen his photograph probably a hundred times but it was kind of surreal having him inches away from me (same for the Battersea shield--I just stood in front of it saying "Oh my God" over and over!)
Anyway, I do think he probably was a sacrifice. But I also think he was a volunteer sacrifice, and I don't know how many would agree with that. It seems to me that human sacrifice was only done in highly unusual circumstances. And, knowing what we know about the belief in the afterlife/otherworld, why wouldn't someone volunteer for the job? I can think of a few times in this life that I would have jumped at the chance! But that's just me....

Although I'm the first to agree there are other interpretations, I'm inclined to agree with Siaron. I certainly don't think it's the body of the woman who was murdered there although the nearby skull could just have been.

I think he was a sacrifice, but I don't like this triple death theory that gets bandied about. The wounds on his body could easily be explained in other ways. And I've also heard a theory that his 'garotte' was a necklace that had shrunk over the centuries.
