The eager beagle's start to arrive Thursday Morning but many people arrive in the evening. Activities don't really get going until the Friday Morning.

I'm going to be leaving Nottm just after the rush hour on Thursday morning. It's a while since I've been up that way, and I can't remember how long it took me. I imagine that I'll be arriving early afternoon.

I hope everyone who went enjoyed it as much as I did and returned home safely. For those who didn't make it there will be another next year (Ovatically themed) I may post a fuller description if encouraged to do so.

Yes, home safe and sound, though I've still not caught up on sleep, as the electricians turned up at 7.30 this morning... Sorry you couldn't make it, Craig - our circle missed you, and your name was mentioned often. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as I did

Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin! I managed to get all packed up the previous day and since Sid's pot was ready at the crack of dawn, we were able to set off as early as I'd hoped. I dropped Samantha off at work (Her father collected her as arranged) and carried on towards Monmouth. I managed to miss the turning off the A 40 so carried on into Monmouth, turned back and came in the other way. I reached the camp, booked in and began to look for friends before deciding where to pitch camp. ;D I quickly found Kris and the Anglesey Druid order, the Oakdragon group, an old friend named Star and one or two others. I asked after Hawkwind and was pointed towards his caravan where I started to pitch camp. Alex deserted to the childrens area and I was soon joined by Hawkwind and his family and by Blackbird. The opening ritual was upon us before I'd thought to change into historical/ritual clothing so I did in khaki shorts and a loud shirt. This may have been a mistake as the open fronted loud shirt permitted the sun access to my uncreamed chest burning it slightly. I then changed into more comfortable clothing and started to get into things. I do remember getting the mead horn, a bottle of Celtic Mead and my song book out and singing around the campfire with Blackbird but I'm fairly sure no-one else joined us because I do remember that Blackbird and I polished off the mead virtually without assistance. Friday was the day Little Raven was due to arrive so I kept an eye out for him and went to the one and only workshop I attended all camp (Being the Awen with Kris) I also bumped into Chris (whom you may have seen surviving the Iron Age on TV) an old friend and fellow historical bod as well as Piglet (sweetheart), Tony Dancing Bear (Wonderful guy), Magpie (from the Awen list, an absolute star) and Wayne (Silversmith and all round fantastic dude). LR arrived and joined our circle and was slowly introduced to or met people he had spent years arguing with <grin>. I set up my workspace and shop next to Hawkwind's forge and enjoyed a quiet (if rather hot) afternoon selling things, chatting to people and doing really very little. There was a ritual circle whose stated aim was to comemmorate the dead of the London Bombings but whose content seemed to stray a bit. I hope I brought things back onto this subject by singing my "Song of Parting" before the end. The evenong's entertainment consisted of performances by a mother and daughter acrobatic team, Damh the Bard (If you haven't heard his music I pity you) followed by Fiona Davidson from Scotland singing and telling stories (If anything even better). I missed the end as a certain little girl had worn herself out playing with the other children and needed to go to bed. I spent the rest of the evening sitting by the fire outside the tent singing and sipping more mead with Blackbird, Little Raven, Hawkwind, Ann and the others in the circle. More friends drifted in and out and the mead at elast got shared this time along with some of Blackbird's superb (if rather strong) home brewed wine. I spent most of Saturday tapping metal and trying to keep an eye on Hawkwind for ideas and to offer any assistance that might be welcome. It was a busy day and I think I missed a few interesting workshops including Damh's "smack a deer's ar5e" stalking one! The evening started with a pagan Blues band (not really my scene) followed by the amazing Robin Williamson During which Alex fell asleep on my lap. There was then a bardic comedian whom I missed as I had to put the little fairy princess to bed. But the campfire beckoned and another night was spent singing, telling stories, drinking and discussing Talyessin's bardic network into the wee small hours. I missed the Sunday morning workshop on "the real Taliesin" as I'd completely lost track of time. I managed to get chatting to some of the people I had wanted to get to know but before we knew it it was the closing circle and soon afterwards we were heading homewards. All in all it was an absolutely superb camp. just a pity it didn't last longer. And the weather...... Blisteringly hot the whole time ;D

Not a bad account - except that in your modesty, you omit the bit about all the admiration that your jewellery got...
And thank you for describing my home brew as 'superb' - first time for everything ;D
Midori - sounds like you're having an upheaval. Will you be there at Lughnasadh? Will be good to catch up properly, without the um... distractions of the last camp...

The presentation of the Ancient Whispers jewellery has indeed improved with polished items in boxes with cards explaining the historical provenance of the designs.
There were however a very large number of people at the camp who positively drove me green with envy at the beauty of their music, the wisdom of their words and humour of their tales and songs. Those who post her know who you are!

Hi Blackbird,
Yes, I'll be at camp, for my sins, I'm now First Aid and Safety bod.
Will only have two with me this time, my lad and his friend. They have orders Not to get themselves injured this time, or they'll be trussed up and hung up in a tree somewhere!
