Thanks for this Mark. I tried to post the following comment on your blog but couldn't as i don't have a Google account:
This nicely balanced between scholarly reserve and acknowlegement that there might be other readers out there that have uses for a book on the topic. They need to be able to rely on scholarly accuracy, of course (as much as such an idealist concept has any meaning)but also need some of the verve, life and insight which prevents this becoming mere scholarly capital. So thank you for a review that provides a judgement that allows the book to be assessed from both viewpoints.
