I got this one morning around two years back... In fact, it seems that it was /exactly/ two years back...
It came so fast that I couldn't read my own writing...
-- (Not Quite) The Song of Amergin
I am a stag of seven tines that walks the forests wide I am a flood across a plain that covers land with tide I am a wind upon a lake that brings the stories near I am a tear the sun lets fall upon my lover dear I am a hawk above a cliff that calls with piercing voice I am a thorn beneath the nail that offers bitter choice I am a wonder among flowers that shines so bright and clear I am a wizard - who but I all wreathed in smoke appear?
I am a spear that roars for blood which out of darkness flows I am a salmon in a pool whose eye with knowledge glows I am a lure from paradise, an other-worldly choir I am a hill where poets walk and awen them inspires I am a boar, ruthless and red, whose warring soul brings harm I am a breaker threatening doom despite all soothing charms I am a tide that drags to death - my brackish waters parch I am an infant - who but I peers from the dolmen arch?
I am the womb of every holt My blood gives life to all I am the blaze on every hill My flames shoot high and tall I am the queen of every hive My daughters tend the world I am the shield for every head My banner flies unfurled
And when the days of life are done and all seems dark and cold - I am the tomb of every hope - the refuge of the old.

And for those who haven't had the honour of hearing this Sung - I can assure you that it is Powerful Stuff Indeed!
Interesting that it was two years ago - and this time of year too. I'm starting to get 'stag stuff' again at the moment. Especially after harping beneath the 'Herne the Hunter' costume from Robin of Sherwood...
