Got a knock on the door early this morning and took delivery of a heavy box full of 1000 glass mastered copies of my album ;D ;D ;D Fingers crossed it's OK this time... I'm about to put one into the CD player to test it out. Glad this is finally finished - it's only taken me a year and half to get the bloody thing out

Its always tricky writing reviews for items that have been produced by people you know. You want to be honest, but you also don’t want to offend and ruin a friendship. Not something I have to worry about in this instance. Rigantona is a CD produced by Blackbird. It is an album of traditional harp music; music native to the British Isles and Ireland and all but one of the songs feature the harp. Fairy Host is my favourite track on the album thus far, mostly because the lyrics and the power of the artist’s voice are mesmerizing. It is sung without the harp, though there is some light percussion to enchance one short section of the piece. Greensleeves is a simple and perfect instrumental version, for which Blackbird should be congratulated. It is a tune that brings fond memories to the fore. The album is a combination of several good instrumental pieces played lovingly on the harp, and three songs, which combine to create a perfect afternoon’s listening. I’ve listened to this album several times already whilst driving to work, each time thinking I would dearly love to listen to a live performance from the artist. I believe Blackbird may have originally intended this CD to promote her skills as a harpist for weddings, but its so much more. Definitely a worthwhile purchase. It can be obtained from the website, Traditional Harp.

thanks for that! The Faery Host was never supposed to be on the album... I recorded it straight for someone who'd wanted to hear it performed. But then we had some spare time and the producer and I just thought we'd have fun with it. (I admit to being stupidly proud that I managed to keep on key throughout despite having no points of reference while recording) The song is based on an old Irish poem ('faery' isn't my spelling, that's how it was given in Kuno Meyer's translation!) and it's pretty similar. I just added scansion and the initial/end verse. I laboured over it for bloody weeks but just hours after sharing it, Alexa Duir sent me the three spoken verses (grrr!) I think they are brilliant and really add to the story of the song.

Got my copy and finally had time to listen to it. Wonderful stuff. I'm not sure which is my favourite so far - torn between Wind Song, Fairy Host and Plains of Annwn.
I envy those of you that have heard Blackbird play live and look forward to being able to hear her live myself one day.
Potia.
