I have a series of books by Julian May (time travelling Sci-Fi) called the saga of the Exiles, in which people who cannot cope with life in the Future use a one way time portal to go back to the Pliocene, where they are enslaved by aliens, who are very loosely disguised Celtic Heroes, such as Epone (Epona), Cullucket, (Cuchullain), Dionket (Diancecht), et al.
I don't know if they are still in print, but they are The Many Coloured land, The Golden Torc, the Non-Born King and the Adversary. There are also a second trilogy, which is a prequel to this, Jack the Bodiless, Diamond mask and Magnificat.
They give another slant entirely on the Hero tales.

They sound interesting, I'll look out for them! Unbrythonically, I'm currently reading The Rattlesnake by Jordan Goodman, a ripping yarn about the mapping of the seas around Australia and the horrors and adventures that awaited the Rattlesnake crew... excellent read so far

I have a feeling that you will have to look on secondhand book sites for them, or perhaps try Julian May's website.

I forgot to add Intervention, which ties in the Pliocene ones with the Modern ones.
Have just looked on Amazon, and they have loads, some for as little as a penny each!
