Yes - I reviewed it for the last issue of White Dragon I got the feeling that he didn't know a great deal about the period. However, his tactical interpretation of the rebellion was brilliant, and I also loved the empathy account bits. I'd recommend it, it's entertaining and interesting. Also, once you discount the appendices, it's not that long.

Just finished it & Blackbirds summary is perfect. I thought it might be a bit dry but this is not the case. In fact, I found it very emotive & exciting in places. The descriptions of the political settings, the intrigue & the battles painted very vivid images to the point I thought I was there.
