just spent a fortnight with once estranged family in Canada. Unfamiliar gods, in ways that nowhere in Europe has ever been
On the shores of lands of unfamiliar gods I tread, unsure foot Across stone and rock Each miss-step announcing my presence. Birds and beast speak An alien tongue, beaks utter Beasts stutter and howl. There are spirits here, Fragile folk With canny traps and games To frame my thought Though I fought to keep Mind free, it was easier to see What they wished me to see And listen to the barbarous names Of the mountain and winds
