Greetings everyone, I've just joined.
I live in Chesterfield and am interested in all things relating to the folklore, history, myths and legends of Britain. I've also dabbled on the edges of paganism for around 8 years now and have attended a handful of druidic rituals on the usually wet and windy or sometimes midge infested moors of Derbyshire.
I recognise some of the names here from previous boards such as the Awen group - Brochfael, Blackbird and Craig in particular. Hello again to you all. I was always rather quiet on those boards but I promise I'll pipe up when I've got something sensible to say.
I've tried learning Welsh, but it's still eluding me at the moment. So those tips below may come in very handy.

Hello there, Which Derbyshire group did you do stuff with? (Wondering if it was the late lamented SONG?) Hope you enjoy yourself here

Indeed it was the late lamented SONG, Blackbird! I only joined them on a few occasions but every gathering was an unforgettable experience, whether it was getting caught in a thunderstorm during a ceremony and literally getting soaked to the skin, or nearly being eaten alive by midges. Happy days.

*g* I enjoyed the one where we all got covered in ant-cestors ;D
Think all the local wildlife was celebrating the 8 festivals along with us... they certainly feasted off us every time...

You know you love it really. You can't beat a bit of rain. I went to Crete on holiday earlier this month and I kept wishing for a nice downpour. Seriously. Couldn't wait to get home to the mist and rain and green hills. I think I'm physiologically designed for dreary British weather.

I think I'm physiologically designed for dreary British weather. I know exactly how you feel - the appeal of a green, misty forest is so much more appealing than a dry brown land. I went to Crete in April a few years back and it rained most days. The locals were all complaining about having to keep the winter shutters on the front of the cafes. I must have taken a mischievious local water spirit with me!

Hi there Dubhghaill You had better be more involved here, madame BB don't care for no slackers, no siree bob! Seriously though, welcome to this most excellent forum. It is well worth mooching around the parent site too, there are few that can claim as broad and deep a selection of brythonic lore as the good lady has collected here. Feral blessings, Craig /|\

Wotcher Dubhghaill,
Trick with the Welsh is not to get hung up about mutations. Learn the different phonetic values of the letters and have confidence.
You'll get there!
Croeso (Kroy-soh) - Welcome!
