I salutated in Old English. It's getting late and that's the only one I remember... Well I followed the links from An Fianna, and here I am. Pagan-wise it would be faster to tell you what I'm not, than what I am. But I'll stick with 'witch' for now. I was born and grew up in the Vale of York - love the history of this place, and the archaeology. The 'celtic' period has always captured my imagination - our chariot burials in this part of the world, and the barrows nearby, etc. Also I love the languages of 'the dark ages' - esp Old English and Old Norse. I never learned Old/Middle Welsh as sadly, only 2 of us registered for it at uni so the course didn't run... Fascinates me how we lost the earlier languages within a generation or two, although there are traces of an older culture (just) in Old English. What happened there? My interests are folklore, divination, poetry and Old English. I've been known to write in various places about 'green' issues, also textiles - handspinning and natural dyeing, the folklore of colour, stuff like that. Happy to offer whatever help I can.

Hey, great to see you here There's been some interesting stuff on the Arthurnet mailing list recently about how much Brythonic language influenced the development of the Germanic languages here... fascinating stuff, but I admit most of it goes straight over me head ;D I can't understand much Middle Welsh, but I can recite a few things in it. Sounds odd, but the rhythmic cadences of it are just wonderful and transmit the feel of a poem even if the folks listening don't catch all the words.

LOL It's the opening of 'Beowulf', literally means 'what' but I always prefer to translate it as a dramatic 'Lo!' No idea why...
Nice to be here.
