Once again, the dark of the year is upon us and fast approaching is probably (at this time) the most ritually important time of the year for Brython. As per last years post, the members of Brython wish to invite members of CF to join us in our triple ceremonies and toasts for the dark of the year and the turning of the circle. Our observances will commence at 7pm on the 18th with the first of our triple toasts to Epona / Eponalia the patron of our Tylwyth. The second of our toasts will be at the same time on the 21st to mark the solstice, with the third being on the 24th. Some of us will mark the end of this period with a dawn observance as we recognize the emergence of the sun at the years end. Different members may also participate in individual observances as is their choice. The triple toast is worded as such...
It is now the marker of time marks time When light shifts in the dark Upon itself and ebb turns back To flow as the land lies stark
With my Tylwyth now I gather Hearts and minds across the land Brothers, sisters now together Share a toast with cup in hand
You are invited to join in all three or any number you may feel appropriate to your circumstances and as before, we would consider it good manners to post your intentions to join us, in this post.

I would love to. But I think maybe the bright midsummer condition my country is in at the moment might make it inappropriate for me to do so? Or at least not with the mention of the dark and such like? What are people's thoughts on this?

I will be joining you for the first two. It's finally getting wintry here, so this fits nicely. I presume you mean 7 pm GMT, so I should adjust for time difference?

Rion: yep, about 7pm GMT
Annua: i think you are right, it is an odd thing to do. the best thing would be to do what feels appropriate for your part of the world and its landscape. that said, you can always time it to conincide with that we will be doing.

The neo-pagan eighfold festival wheel allows for mirroring of festivals in the southern hemisphere but Brython's current list doesn't to the same extent. May I suggest you join us in the toasts using only the second verse and for the solstice and midsummer focussing on whatever this period means most to you? It was generally agreed last year that this time of year has a family focus and that might be something that you would also agree with?

That was sort of what I was considering. Whilst I can't do something in tune with the dark part of the year there I can certainly drink a toast during what we're doing at the same time as you guys. I think... *checks time difference*

It was generally agreed last year that this time of year has a family focus and that might be something that you would also agree with? Yes, we wouldn't normally make much of the Summer Solstice in the way we do things as we don't do the whole eight fold wheel business. But with Xmas falling so close to it we've found that as we don't practice that we've had to emphasise Midsummer as our family time to avoid the foolishness of fake snow and icicles and plastic holly in the middle of Summer which is what Xmas seems to require here. So I'm sure it can be incorporated. I'd like to acknowledge what's happening back home tacitly whilst at the same time being in tune with the bright summer around us. Thanks for the input.
