Stumbled in here in an attempt at learning something about ancient welsh religion and deity. Although having lived here in rural wales for nearly all my life, I know nothing of the pagan ways of the celts. Yet, the gorsedd druids set up a stone circle in the village center some time back, it remains just as an enigma to me as I pass. Just for reference, I'm involved with the Hellenic Cult of Athena but have not one drop of greek blood - my ancestors are saxon-norman, and my line traces back to the Aesir. A big claim for a small man, agreed, but it's just a name that links me, that's all. My pagan job, is poet and researcher, over the last two years I have been training as a warrior in sword and shield and longsword. I want to add bachyn-cymraeg and welsh longbow to that to make a full welsh martial art as it would have been perhaps. Recently, I have been catching reflections of the goddess Athena in my chromed armour. These are still 'maybee's' for the skeptics. But for me they are valid. I have been told Athena is Brigid....nice to meet you, and there are some druid henge photographs on my blog if anyone is interested!

Hi NP And welcome to Y Caer. I think you find a wealth of material here, and some fairly fresh minds (other than mine) to discuss them with. Have a browse or just dive right in. I'd be interested in why you think, or were told, that Athena = Bridey. Blessings, Craig <O>.

Hey, good to meet other fighting types I do a lot of sword stuff too, and have even got organised to do a website - www.taranis.org.uk Personally, I'm not sure about the Athena = Bride thing, though I can see where they were coming from with it. All I'll say is that, just as in human society, there can be more than one person involved with similar stuff. ymmv

Hey Blackbird, I checked out Taranis and am well impressed. I'm with the Glamorgan School Of Arms at the moment, and may well be for a while due to not having a car to go anywhere else. They are a good bunch though.
BTW, what do you think the 'welsh sword' would be like, I've seen one made by dragonforge and it's a massive 2 hander...not something for general combat use I suppose. Would it be a shortsword or single hander...or a falchion? Let me know what you think...
