The Glacial erratic theory of the prescence of bluestones at Stonehenge has always seemed even more far fetched that the transport theory to me. Bear in mind that Glaciers, like rivers will flow downhill. Therefore the bluestones would have to be 'washed' down to the Bristol channel and then 'washed' BACK UPHILL to Wiltshire! Furthermore I saw a television documentory which showed a (then) new type of testing aimed to show when the rock had been hewn. This was applied to several surfaces of bluestone and all came back as a late Neolithic date rather than a date during glaciation. Not conclusive but suggestive since the stones could theoretically have been hewn from pre-existing glacially exposed lumps.
