Hi ^_^ I introduced myself in the open area of the forum, but from what I have read I must post here also. My name is Emma, I am 18 and was born in the west Midlands (a little town just outside of Birmingham). I am now based in Nottingham to do a biomedical science degree. I have been pagan for 4 years and a Hellenic re-constructionist for 3, though now the need to honour my ancestral gods and the gods of this land is too great to ignore. I'm not entirely sure where to start, but I have been reading the info on dun brython. I also have the most recent translation of the mabinogion that my library can offer. Once I think I have a basic foundation of knowledge I will approach the gods. I did have a dream the other night involving Tyr (Who is Norse, I am aware) and Llyr, which seems like a positive step as I had no idea these gods even existed until I googled them the day after. If anyone has any source texts to recommend, i'd love that. Coming from a re-con background I have no issue with tedious primary sources, haha! I'd also love it if someone could point me in the direction of a pronunciation guide. Right now all these w's and y's are embarrassingly confusing for me! I am especially interested in the Romano-British period! I didn't intend this post to turn out like an essay, but nonetheless I look forward to getting to know people and learning more! -Emma

Hi Emma, You'll find a lot of information in previous discussions that have taken place here so do have a good look through things. For example there's stuff on recommended reading in the Library area and some information on pronounciation in the Brython section if I remember correctly. When in doubt with pronounication of particular Welsh words we usually turn to our resident experts and Megli is the foremost of these when it comes to older forms of Welsh in particular. I'm absolutely hopeless at pronounciation of words in other languages (I think I do ok with English most of the time <G>) and he's given me loads of help in the past And please do post any particular questions that come up, we may not have the answers but between us we'll have fun helping you figure some out

For Romano-British stuff, Guy De La Bedoyere's 'Gods and Thunderbolts' is a cracker - it's very informative but also fun to read.
Although I don't agree with all her conclusions, Anne Ross' 'Pagan Celtic Britain' is still useful too- lots of stuff about the various bits of iconography and epigraphy from Roman Britain. (If you're a cash strapped student, the library will probably have that one!)
Do you mind me asking what drew you to the Hellenic side of things initially?

) Do you mind me asking what drew you to the Hellenic side of things initially? Blackbird x A few months after starting out in paganism, I simply asked if anybody was out there and Poseidon answered. I also love ancient Hellenic culture, world view and myth! There are certain Hellenic gods that I will not ever cease to worship, but my practice needs to evolve.
