I hope that those of you that are seeing some of the worst of the current UK weather are staying safe and warm. Thinking of you all

Sat here at a ridiculously early hour, and another six inches has fallen overnight and I appear to be well and truly snowed in.

I have spent the last few days wearing a billion layers and trying not to fall flat on my face down the steep, un-gritted hills in my area. Cars are stuck all around this block and well into the night all you can hear is engines revving and people trying to push the vehicles.

Roads round Glasgow are ok at the moment and very well gritted but there's piles of snow everywhere else. Trouble is there may be more!

Work have had to put me in a hotel (at their expense) for the last two days. I am going to try and get home tonight (1 am/2 am) , but I am informed it may be difficult indeed.

And here I am in Southern California where the people are complaining they are cold because the weather has plunged into the high sixties. Seriously though, in Al Gore's documentary "An inconvenient truth" he suggested that the melting of the land ice in Greenland with the resulting flow of fresh water going down into the Gulf Stream would so upset the flow of the stream that the UK and the Scandinavian countries could face ice age conditions. Do you think his assessment is becoming a reality?

Do you think his assessment is becoming a reality? Britain goes through 30 years cycles of warm winters then cold winters. When I was a kid it snowed every winter. it has been snowing here since Monday night and has just stopped this morning (friday). We have over 13 inches of snow here. It's minus 3 here at the moment and what is weird is rain is forceast, it's going really icy tomorrow.

We're having a nightmare!
All the sheep needing loads of hay and cake, as with the snow this deep they can't get down through it to the grass. Not really a problem getting fodder to most of ours as these are almost all down in the valley, and not far from the house - a handful are still up high and getting food to these is very hard work. Almost everyone's been caught out by this much snow in Novemember and some of our neighbours still had a lot of sheep high in the mountains - I've been helping getting hay up to these, but also we've been having to dig some sheep out of drifts. Very hard work.
I'm sorry I haven't been taking part in the interesting discussions here at the moment, but to be honest I'm just knackered at the moment. When I log on to see what's being said here, I'm to wiped out to arrange my thoughts into any sort of sense to be worth replying!

I don't know about anyone else, but I kinda figured this was the case. Not everyone has 9 to 5 jobs. As usual, your input whenever you can post, is most welcome! (I was going to PM you as to how you were coping, but you've pre-empted me, which is kinda spooky ;D ) RR

We had some rain yesterday evening in Glasgow and a bit of a thaw. The temperature must have dropped back down during the night though as we still have lots of snow and now lots of ice everywhere too. It looks lovely out there though if dangerous.
Sorry to hear you having such a nightmare of a time Francis. Hope things improve for you soon.

It's hard to imagine the cold when we have an uncontrollable bush fire destroying what little greenery Israel has, but take care people. Be safe.

I think farmers have it worst. My landlord's phones have been running non-stop with people needing hay, straw and feed as getting anyone to deliver is difficult. And, we're not in the hills, I can't imagine how much worse it is for people living in remote areas or higher ground. I hope things improve for all - soon.

We're all snowed/iced in today in Glasgow and we had some adventures getting everyone home yesterday evening but it could have been much worse. There are reports of school children having to spend the night in school because parents couldn't get to them and others of people stuck in cars overnight.
Stay well folks

We still have inches of snow on the ground here, but it's solid ice now, and I'm in Kent.

In Dorchester yesterday we had 6 inches of snow in the space of an hour, the roads became impassable yet just 6 miles away Weymouth had torrential rain and there was no snow on the ground. Truly weird!
