Today I have seen my first blossoms on the hawthorn along the river Kelvin near my work. It's likely to be a little while longer before the first blooms at home and even longer for the hawthorn to be in full bloom.
Last year we had a joint toast at the full moon after blossoms were seen, that would make it 17th May. This year we have a gathering at the end of May. Do we want to have a joint celebration then or inbetween or personal celebrations or all of the above?

I know this thread is concerning timing, but this week I've been trying to iron out a few things about May Day and Beltane. How do other people feel about Rhiannon's connection with this festival (if indeed any connection at all)? For me personally I've come to associate Her with both this time of year and with Hawthorn blooms, but have also felt that May Day is the time for who I always called the GreenMan. Have just had a quick look on the Dun Brython site to see what has been said about this festival there. I'm keen to hear more of your thoughts and experiences, as since hanging around here I find I'm having to revisit everything I thought I knew - even the basics!

There are May trees in flower along the coast, but not yet in the tree in the hedge behind my garden altar. So until that flowers - this: Rhiannon Gu I place blossoms of Quince Before your altar To honour thee In the season of May And many a flowering tree. I have a small rose bush planted there too out of the pic in another part of the altar, so there will always be blossoms through the summer. And you might be able to see dried rose petals, precious stones and other things I have put there.

I would think May blossom should be out in most places by the 17th. So this would be a good time to do a joint toast.
By the end of the month it looks like we'll be well into the Summer.

I'm going to do a triple toast to Rigantona, for her return to the land and for the tribe that honour her tomorrow evening. And I'll use Heron's beautiful words from last year again "Rigantona we hold you in the bonds Of our tribe as the Moon rises Bring us together in your honour As we dedicate this time to you Sovereign Queen of our land." I hope some of you at least will be joining me. Hugs xx

i will be i will be adding the latest words from heron too: Rigantona of the days before, Rhiannon of the days that come after, Great Queen, your people do you homage As you come again amongst us and your land awakens. Rigantona, we strew rose petals about your altar For your coming from the Otherworld. i like that it ties into the Calan gaeaf hymn

Yesterday I took a walk along the river Kelvin and the hawthorne blossoms were just beginning to open. This weekend sees a full moon. On Sunday RR & I will be gathering in Pollok Park with other local pagans to celebrate Beltane. I think Saturday night will see a triple toast from me at least (and probably RR). Anyone else?
