I thought it might be interesting to compare and contrast the ritual setup of Brython with that of Senobessus...
Below is a basic layout of a typical ritual setup that I want to use when I have a working group. Like my other posts, it is based on a lot of historical approximation, but this one especially includes borrowings from mixed Indo European and especially PIE sources, several conceptualizations from the Celtoi group in Germany, as well as some of my own inspirations.
*Note:
Rix: Tribal leader
Gutuater: Advisor
Eurises: Dedicants
Group Ritual Primer
I. Lautron (cleansing)
The Rix calls the assembly for worship
From the center of the altar space
The Rix:
Hear the call of the gods
Let us join in worship
Lustral water is passed around by The Rix
And each member purifies themself accordingly
The Eurises:
May we be pure
The Gutuater:
Tausyete! (silence)
May we all maintain
A most holy silence
II. Agileta (hearth)
The Rix lights the hearth fire in honor of Brigantia
The Rix:
O Brigantia,
Keeper of the sacred hearth,
May you bring our prayers
And sacrifices to the Gods
The Gutuater makes an offering of incense
After the fire has had time to build
The Gutuater:
Brigantia, the Shining Lady, unite us all
For by worshipping at a common hearth
We are made one family and one people.
III. Gutus (invocation)
The Rix states the purpose of the ritual
The Rix:
We have come here to honor
The gods and goddesses
The departed ancestors
And the spirits of the land
IV. Ateberta (sacrifice)
The dedicants proceed to the altar with their sacred offerings
The Rix blesses the sacrifices with lustral water
And The Gutuater places the offerings around the altar
The Gutuater:
We give these offerings
In honor of Brigantia, The Shining Lady,
The gods of sea, land, and sky;
The sacred ancestors whether living or dead
And the spirits of the land.
Blessings to all of you
The Eurises:
Blessings to all of you
V. Cantlon (hymns)
The Rix reads a prepared poem to the chosen deity:
.................
The Gutuater:
If it is you will, may you hear
Our prayers and grant our requests
VI. Dinouon (libation)
The Rix pours the sacred drink into cups for all those attending
And The Gutuater gives each cup to each member in the assembly
The Rix:
We drink to you, O Gods
The Eurises:
We drink to you
The Gutuater:
We give this libation in honor of
Brigantia, The Shining Lady,
The gods of sea, land, and sky;
The sacred ancestors whether living or dead
And the spirits of the land.
Blessings to all of you.
The Eurises:
Blessings to all of you
The Eurises pour the rest into the offering bowl.
VII. Devedon (ending)
The Rix marks the closing of the ritual
The Rix:
Go in peace, Immortal Ones,
Departed ancestors and spirits of the land,
with righteous judgement and great benevolence.
May you be with us always.
Extinguish the flame
