T cut a very long & personal story short, I've been struggling with various concepts viewpoints on the faery folk/the fey/the sidhe. In fact, it came to a head last year when iI was patronised with the statement 'You're obviously not ready to receive that truth yet?'
So, I would be very grateful to hear peoples views/definitions of 'the faery folk!'
Thanks in advance
Rob

what is worth exploring is at what point these beings go from being normal people in the Otherworld (Arawn/Hafgan) to sprites that come out of mounds and dance in the moonlight. And why the shift?
Fairies such as the various Ladies of the lakes are obviously (?) developments on the Goddess of the Waters.

I believe that there is a "race" of non-human intelligences that have been characterised as the Fair folk, fairies etc... millennia of layered labels confuses the issue, but there is scarcely a culture that doesn't acknowledge the presence of such spirits, dakini, mimi, fairy. Just as the term "Gods" has been used to apply to creator style Gods, powerful ancestors and elemental forces, so has fairy been used in a multitude of ways... but at core, they exist and are other than human

Personally I think they come in a wide range of forms. I think that like gods they can be linked to particular features of the landscape and through that aspect have a physical form or they can be non-physical. Those that don't have a physical form can appear to us in whatever form amuses them the most on that day and situation. I think they sometimes like to "borrow" stuff and return it in odd ways when least expected. Like many other beings they can be kind and playful, or mean and spiteful and to think of them as cutsie little beings with pretty wings is just daft - makes good artwork sometimes though All very much my own opinion.

I've heard that from OBOD druids to OBOD non-Druids, with my own ears.

Thanks for your views, I appreciate it. As you can guess I'm working through stuff with various posts. It's so refreshing to be able to do that with 'kindred folk'. Not really been able to do that for a long time (apart from my wife).
As with much of my personal experience with the Gods, it has been one of great effect on my life. This can be utterly wiped out in a single moment when I get an onslaught of new age bulls**t, if you get my drift.
The fey has caused me much reflection, not of my experience. The mention of fairies and ....

One of the remarks which turned me away from OBOD, amongst others. Who is to judge? Surely if the student can formulate the question, there should be some answer available less damaging to a student's ego?
Perhaps the 'Druids' in question didn't know, but did not want to admit it.
Cheers, Midori

Surely if the student can formulate the question, there should be some answer available less damaging to a student's ego? There is. There always is... so the only conclusion I can come to is that the individual concerned is no teacher. Strangely, "I don't know the answer" was always an answer more likely to command my respect.

Cheers, Midori I think that is more than likely. People are people I guess and OBOD or not some have egos that need stroking. I can only apologise about this comment Dreamguardian - there are always a few plonkers in any organisation. I've heard Wiccans, and a few other Pagans over the years say similar things.

I agree with what you are saying there Damh. The problem for OBOD is that it is often perceived as a hierarchical organisation in the use of the three grades and having to pay to attain them.

It was within this context I made the comments, Damh & not to start a OBOD bashing theme. You've no need to be an OBOD apologist. You, in particular have my full respect. Don't start me off on the wiccans ;D ;D ;D Rob

Yep, let's not get OBOD bashing, but if there is a context where a comment was made I think it's fair that is stated.

In fact, it came to a head last year when iI was patronised with the statement 'You're obviously not ready to receive that truth yet?' My answer would have been "It's not obvious to me why you think this please can you explain why am I not ready in your opinion?" to the original questioner.

My answer would have been "It's not obvious to me why you think this please can you explain why am I not ready in your opinion?" to the original questioner. I did! It got worse & as frustrating as ever. I can't be all new-agey and totally calm, centred & philosophical in these moments. I just can't do it. I express my strong emotions & feelings about those things that are important to me. It followed then that the problem was definately with me because of my reaction. I was told then & on several other occassions that I obviously have issues that need dealing with. I'm dealing with those issues now (The pretentious fluffies) & leaving them far behind me.
