Grendel isn't so much a turkey as the bastard child of Bernard Matthews mutant turkey monster. And I bet it's got bird flu as well.

I thought you couldn't play foreign DVDs on UK machines? (Be great if that turns out not to be true!) I certainly can't play them on my dinky old machine.

I watched Pan's Labyrinth on sky box office last night. It's a Spanish film with English subtitles. The brief story line is that a little girl is trying to get back to the otherworld and is helped by a cernunos like person, excellent special effects and some fairies that get there heads bitten off. It's a violent film so don't let your kids see it

I was seriously disappointed in Pan's Labyrinth. Another victim of disappointing hype. That said the texture of the film was very good and I enjoyed the representation of Pan.
As for other recommendations I whole heartedly agree with Spirited Away, Princess Minanoke and 300.
As for others I'd go for Children of Men, House of Flying Daggers, Memoirs of a Geisha, Whale Rider, The Dark Crystal, Layer Cake, Man on Fire, The Wicker Man (for all you hold sacred NOT the remake!), Dogma, The Emerald Forest or the Rome box set. At a push you could go for Apocalypto which for me was more a highly dramatised documentary than anything else.

I thought Apocalypto was beautiful, as is House of the Flying Daggers. I have recently borrowed (but not yet watched) 'The New World' after watching the trailer on Megli's blog. Pan's Labyrinth - good. I loved the juxtapositioning of the real world with the world of Pan.
Have still to get around to seeing 300 - have heard some good reviews from friends (I tend to ignore the official ones as they rarely correspond with mine!!)

Anyone seen "The Dark" with Sean Bean? I was expecting them to make more of the Annwn connection, but it just ended up confusing the hell out of me (no pun intended)

heheheh... another film that, as the credits roll, you're sat there thinking... "huh??" Good fx though, and it was creepy.
I'm probably the only person in the world that is actually looking forward to Gibson's Boudica. Can't be THAT bad, surely? And if it is, there are three other versions in the works to fall back on (including one by Spielberg of all people)

Yes, I saw the Silent Hill film - thought it started really well, but got a bit silly at the end Some genuinely scary moments in it, but for me, playing the games was far worse... after the second game in the series, I had to give up - my nerves just couldn't take the stress ;D

Now a Spielberg Boudicca would be something... though I'd still prefer a Peter Jackson version.
I wonder what position Gibson would take, after all the Beastly English didn't exist then. Perhaps he'd use the Roman Empire as an analogy for the British. I expect that the whipping of Boudicca and the rape of her daughters might be a bit graphic though... eeugh!
Onto the topic at hand though, I expect I'm pretty alone in liking Underworld and Underworld Evolution?

I can safely say though I have worn these for many years, long before Underworld arrived. Although that did not mask my embarrasment when I went ot see it at the cinema, in said coat. I looked like a vampire nerd. Major geeky faux pas.

The DVDs we watch over and over again are Constantin (yes I know he was supposed to look like Sting and not Keanu), Riddick, Queen of the Damned and Hell Boy.

'Interview with a Vampire' is one of my top five films, but even I baulked at 'Queen of the Damned'. Ugh.

Caitlin is not so keen on Interview with a Vampire although it was the film that reconciled me to Tom Cruise (depite the teeth) - or the Crow films which I also love, but I expect her to grow into them.
Queen of the Damned is great plus fantastic sound track. Johnathan Davies having a good time!
But what about Name of the Rose, now there's a film.

I wonder what position Gibson would take, after all the Beastly English didn't exist then. Hey, we give up taking over other peoples countries a long time ago, now we just moan about the weather. Hardly Hollywood stuff.
