Any film with Vampires and coats. Good to go.
If anyone dares discuss the psychology of that you will find a somewhat, shall we say "disturbing" set of consequences.

I read the Umberto Eco Name of the Rose and it was well worth it. Lots of learned stuff in there.

(Oh and leather cat-suits, don't forget the leather cat-suits.) Can you get them in your size?? I always wondered how Spike managed to kick ass without tangling himself in the coat.

*g* I liked Underworld, rubbish but good entertainment. Not seen the second one yet. I never liked the Interview with the Vampire, and didn't get on with the books either. No idea why... just don't like her style... I do love the old Hammer vampire films - you just can't beat Christopher Lee. Fantastic! I like the Wicker Man for the same reason Another brilliant horror/fantasy thing is Brotherhood of the Wolf, a French film. Lots of fun, cool martial arts stuff, great werewolves... nothing like the usual introspective drivel of French cinema ;D

Methinks we are drifitng from the original purpose of this thread somewhat.
But while we're here, how about Jennifer Garner in Electra?

Spielberg's 1941, slated by the critics at the time, but I find it brilliant for its parody of an inward looking US, he winds up the tempo brilliantly. I especially love the scene with a 5 star general watching Bambi whilst all hell breaks loose outside!! I also love the original Blues Brothers. Boorman's Excalibur is good as is one mentioned earlier, The Dark Crystal. RR

Must see films? Don't know about that, but these are the films I regularly revisit.
Lord of the Rings Trilogy Star Wars (all six episodes) Silence of the Lambs Breakfast at Tiffanys Night Must Fall Now Voyager Donnie Darko Harvey Muriel's Wedding Priscilla - Queen of the Desert Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Once were Warriors Strictly Ballroom
... just to name a few I have on DVD. One day I will get the whole series of movies from the 50s featuring a kid called Smiley. ;D

Will now add " Pathfinder" starring Keith Urban to the list of recommended titles. Its a dramatisation of what might have happened when the Vikings landed in the Americas (around 500 years before Columbus according to the narrator).

Thanks for the recommendations guys, we've had some great evenings watching some of these, and Dylan loved Spirited Away ... I got an hour and a half's peaceful study time out of that one ;D

One of my all-time faves is 'Silent Running' with Bruce Dern.
The basic story is that the Forests and certain of the fauna of Earth have been sent into space in vast greenhouses after a nuclear accident, so that they can be reintroduced to Earth as some future date.
One of the caretakers of the forests is incenced when the order comes that the project is to be abandoned, the caretakers returned to Earth and the Forests Ships destroyed. The single caretaker's attempts to preserve the Forests against his fellow crewmen's attempts to follow orders become more desparate as time goes on.
There is an very obvious environmental message in the film, which is still relevant today.
It's very old, early 70's I believe, (can't find my copy right now, but it is on DVD).
Cheers, Midori
