While I love the sound of this my earlier statement re timing stands. Travelling wise in theory has just become easier in that I am about to get a car but it's still a very long way to travel from Glasgow and I'm not sure if I'd cope with that long a drive. Longest I've done so far is about 2 hours On the plus side I'm lots fitter than I was last year!

im not sure about parking in Avebury, there are car parks but there is the chance overnight parking is frowned upon. i suppose that if we were to camp on the ridgeway fires would be out which raises some issues and of course inclement weather would have a much larger impact.
its a really attractive prospect and something worth considering.

Much as the idea of free camping on the Ridgeway itself appeals, I think this would have to be thought through carefully. I didn't know you could camp on the Ridgeway itself, but presumably tents would have to be taken down early. Can we light a fire ? And where would we be based - Is there somewhere in Avebury where cars etc can be left? If I remember rightly Avebury to Wayland's Smithy is some distance. Perhaps we need to think of having some interactive time too. Camping on the Ridgeway isn't officially sanctioned, but there is a tacit understanding that tents pitched at dusk and struck early are tolerated - I've never had any problems. We definitely can't light fires though! Avebury to Wayland's smithy is about 2o miles or so, but even if we only went as far as Barbury castle (large hill fort 6 miles-ish from Avebury) that would be good - just take in the Ridgeway, views and talk. Parking is the only tricky bit! My other thought, which I feel awkward to suggest as it might seem I'm trying to hog it, is what about coming back to mine again instead? Easy parking, Big Fires allowed, much easier for Potia to get to, lots to see and do... It might also be more productive for us to just have more time sitting and talking? I realise last year's trip didn't quite go to plan - I'd forgotten about the bank holiday Monday effect and having Tracker at the Bothy meant we couldn't really talk about certain things as freely or comfortably...

Speaking personally, I have no problem with returning to your place Francis, though I am happy to go elsewhere if the majority would like to. It's just unfortunate that due to present circumstances, I'm not in a position to host myself at this time. RR

While I do want to go to Uffington I don't think I could do it this year due to personal circumstances. Getting to Wales is easier and I have developed a fondness for that field now I'd also like to revisit that bothy now I'm fitter!

If the consensus is to go back to the Conwy Valley, then I'd be happy with that.
Do we want to pre-plan some specific activities - e.g. focused discussions of future direction or ritual.
Or would people prefer to leave the structure open?

In many way i think the Conwy valley has the upper hand. perhaps uffington and the ridgeway is something for later in the year when the weather is likely to be more clement and when we have a chance to look into alternative sleeping arrangements should the weather turn grim etc? so, North Wales it is then?

oh... as to structure... maybe something ritual based might be a good idea? something to discuss anyway. the question of group and sovereignty springs to mind.

Sorry everyone - I had to wait for someone to get back to me about another date before I knew when in May I'd be free. So if May is when people want to do this then I can do the weekends of; 7/8th 14/15th 28/29th I agree with Heron that we should line up a few focused discussions. I'd like to suggest thoughts about what relevance (and what rational motivations we could possibly have for) this path of ours has in the twenty first century?

I think I'd prefer the last weekend in May personally but I think I could make the others as well.

i would prefer to avoid the 8th of may weekend, the 9th is my birthday so will be drinking celebrating. later in the month will be warmer too... oh and there is a bank holiday following the 28/29th allowing for recovery time

My own circumstances would mean that I, too, would much prefer the last weekend in May.

This doesn't seem to be appealing to many people! If it's because of having it back at mine again then no problem, but let's come up with another location quickly! I only suggested mine for the ease and freedom to do what we want...
Perhaps we could try June and see if the extra warmth and short nights would be any more enticing?

I thought most people who were likely to come had expressed their agreement. As most have expressed a preference for the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May, that would be nearly in June anyway.

I thought most people who were likely to come had expressed their agreement. Possibly - but frankly only four people coming is a little disappointing. I think gatherings in person have so much potential to take things forward quickly that I was just trying to explore any other options (anywhere, anytime) that might lead to a bigger turnout...
