Would anyone like me to prepare a talk on matters archaeological? I could do a basic intro to the Iron Age, British Prehistory in general or I could do something on the reburial issue. I'd be interested in getting your thoughts on the Iron Age 'Fort' in some of the woodland we have here. Last time any digging took place was in Victorian times - but lots of local stories / ideas / knowledge. Craig please do all you can to be there, it's been far too long since I've seen you. Also LR, please come if you possibly can, same applies. Yes - really hoping Craig can make it. Talisker and fishing rod is needed is it? I'm considering bribing with whiskey, and you could certainly drop a line into the Conwy while we were chatting! I'm not sure if LR even reads these boards anymore.... You asked when most people will be here. I expect most people will arrive on Friday and leave Sunday evening/Monday morning. I'm hoping some may turn up a day early or stay a little longer?

I'll be there with my own tent pitched a little way away from everyone else so you don't have to put up with the snoring. Pffft, you're just worried with all the myths and talks of boars you might get speared in the night

Was really hoping I might be able to come along and meet you all, but I've just checked mileage and train fares and I'm going to have to declare myself out this time around. Maybe next year I'll get to meet you all! That's a real shame as I for one am really looking forward to meeting you face to face. Hugs

I won't know until a bit nearer the time as it depends on my now estranged husband and whether he wants to take extra days with the children. He'll have them Saturday and Sunday anyway and he may want to take extra days with them, if he does it makes it easier for me to come down for longer. I now know I can come down on the Friday and stay to the Monday.

If you have the name of it, I could see if there's any literature, perhaps even ask about it at the Royal Commission before I come.

I'll be driving down and hope to arrive between 4 and 5 pm on the Friday. I think everyone else coming will be driving too.
In the past we've had at least one communal evening meal and I'm presuming we will again? Do we want to make that Saturday as we will all be staying longer this time and that would give more time for planning/shopping?

If you have the name of it, I could see if there's any literature, perhaps even ask about it at the Royal Commission before I come. Hi Brochfael Sorry -missed your post It has two names; Caer Olau Pen-y-castell I've had problems with CADW about it in the past. They wanted me to gas a nearby badger sett that they claimed may be undermining it. So please don't make any enquiries that might bring it back onto any official radar. The situation was never finally resolved, but after a change in staff I haven't heard anything from them about it for a few years. Thanks!

Crikey! That's not very eco-friendly of them. I was toying with just looking at teh historic environment record entry at the Royal Commission on ANcient and Historic Monuments in Wales, based in Aberystwyth but not to worry. Now I've got the names though I can see if there's any literature.

It's all gone very quiet here! Is anyone coming tomorrow?? I'm going to assume you all are? The only change to the plan is that after the weird weather we've been having this year we're going to be camping in the woods not in fields. (Grass is just too important this year to waste any that stock could otherwise eat.) The main difference this will make to you is that if you have a choice of tents please bring your smallest one! I've got a few people can borrow if they've only got a big one. If people get back to me to say it's still on then I'll put up one tentipi that we can all fit in for chatting / sitting / eating etc. So small tents will be fine as they will literally just be for sleeping Where we'll be camping is near the edge of the scarp with great views across the Carneddau (mountains) hopefully we can have some fires up there. Are people happy to be like bears in the woods or do we need to set up the smelly chemical horror that is a portaloo? To avoid embarrassment pm me if you feel you need a portaloo! Hopefully the weather will be kinder to us than it is today! Potia please let me know what I've forgotten to do /get ready? Could at least one other person bring a pair of wellies - one of the places I want to take you is across a little shallow stream that we'll probably have to walk through after this last weeks rain. Probably easiest if a couple of us can give the others piggybacks? Any questions please get back to me soon!

I am definitely coming happy to shit in the woods with no need for a toilet - will also bring wellies (no connection between the two of course) very excited also the weather looks to be fine - sunny and cloudy but no mention of rain. fingers crossed and some drinkies for taranis this evening i think to maintain that outlook.

I was wondering the same thing especially as it's likely to be wet (though of course I admire Lee's optimism!)
But I'm still coming. Thanks for the message about the smaller tent - just in time as I'm about to go up into the loft to get the tent down. Will bring wellies too.
Should we arrange what to bring for the communal meal, or are we planning to shop for that on Saturday?
Where should those of us coming by car meet?
